✈️ Find Flights

Unfortunately, the ghosts haven’t figured out teleportation yet.

For destinations that are too far away for a paranormal road trip, comparing flights can help you find the best combination of price, travel time, and arrival times.

When possible, we like arriving early enough to get settled before exploring—especially when we have an evening ghost tour or paranormal experience planned for our first night.

Some mysterious places aren’t conveniently located next to a train station.

🔎 Research the Mystery

Sometimes finding the place is easy.

Figuring out what actually happened there is considerably harder.

One website says the building is haunted by a woman who died in 1892. Another says she died in 1902. A ghost tour gives her a name. A local legend gives her an entirely different one.

And after enough digging, you may discover there isn’t any evidence she existed at all.

That’s part of researching mysterious places.

Ghost stories, urban legends, cryptid sightings, local folklore, and unusual historical claims often change as they’re repeated. Sometimes a documented event becomes the foundation for a legend. Sometimes several stories get combined. And sometimes a great story simply gets repeated so often that it eventually becomes accepted as fact.

You don’t need access to a secret paranormal archive to start investigating a mystery.

Some of the most useful information can be found through resources such as:

• State and local historical societies
• University archives
• Property and census records
• Historic maps
• National and state historic registers
• Museum collections
• Books about local history and folklore
• Cemetery records
• Digitized photographs and documents
• Contemporary news reports

The trick is learning how to compare them.

A historic newspaper can help establish that an event actually occurred. A local history book might provide context. Folklore collections can show how a legend was traditionally told. Modern tourism websites may reveal how the story has changed over time.

None necessarily tells the entire story by itself.

History, Legend or Mystery?

We don’t think discovering a rational explanation ruins a good ghost story.

In fact, sometimes the real history is even stranger.

That’s why we try to distinguish between documented history, local folklore, reported experiences, and our own interpretations when exploring mysterious places.

You can enjoy the legend without presenting it as historical fact.

You can question a paranormal claim without mocking the people who experienced it.

And you can finish researching a mystery without finding a definitive answer.
